THE Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue, needs to find his voice at the cabinet table and demand action on the current crime crisis. He must once again show the concern with crime that he had while he was in opposition.
In 1996, when he was opposition spokesman on justice, Minister O’Donoghue stated: “It is the duty of the Minister for Justice and the Government to react to society’s problems as they evolve. Legislation must keep pace with what is occurring in society”
It’s not good enough that he now remains silent on the crime problem just because justice is no longer in his portfolio. Crime related issues are something we all feel very strongly about.
