WHEN it rains in Ireland, it usually pours and this was never as true as on Sunday when the wet weather tried its best to dampen spirits at the Loughquittane Regatta but it failed miserably.
Despite the poor weather conditions, there was a large turnout for the Cork/Kerry Rowing Association event that saw a large entry field and plenty of exciting races.
Flesk Valley got off to a great start, winning the girls’ under-14 race while Muckross came second. In the boys’ under-14 race, Castletownbere pipped Muckross into second, again, and Workmen came in third.
Muckross dominated both the under-16 boys’ and girls’ races, winning the two of them in style but Castletownbere exacted some revenge in the minor ladies race, pushing Muckross into second place while Fossa finished third.
Muckross were back on the winners’ podium in the minor boys’ race as they defeated Castletownbere and Kenmare.
Flesk Valley cleaned up in the junior ladies and men’s races with Workmen and Muckross filling up second and third spots in both races.
Flesk Valley, who had four winning crews on the day, won the senior ladies event with Muckross in second and Workmen in third place. The final race saw Castletownbere win the men’s senior race, as Fossa finished second.
