Kerry told to opt for registered electricians

KERRY people are being urged by the Commission for Energy Regulation to use one of the 143 registered electricians in the county when getting works carried out in their homes.

The advice comes as part of a campaign to make consumers aware of the need to hire a registered electrical contractor when getting electrical work done in their home and to ask for a certificate when the work is complete, thereby promoting safety in the home.

Independent market research conducted on behalf of the safe electric campaign has shown that 30 per cent of people surveyed were not aware that there are registered and unregistered electrial contractors working throughout the country.

The survey also found that 58 per cent of people were not aware of the need to look for a certificate of completion, while 71 per cent were unaware of their right to seek redress.

The safe electric campaign was launched by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and is being promoted by the CER in its function as the safety regulator an is supported by a nationwide strategic media campaign.

Details of the 143 registered electrical contractors operating in Kerry are available at www.safeelectric.ie.
