Art’s the style kids

ART was the name of the game in Killorglin as the first ever Laune Art Camp brought out the creative side of some talented local children.

A total of 17 young people attended the July camp which was organised by two local businesses, Nikki Morris of Laune Art Studio and Alan Conway of A4 Office and Stationery Supplies, with Nikki hosting the classes.

According to Alan, the reaction to the initiative has been great, not only in terms of numbers but creativity.

"The response has been incredible and the quality and imagination of pieces produced have been of the highest quality," he said.

Over the week the children enjoyed a host of activities including clay modelling when they produced a selection of pieces from castles to butterflies.

The attention then switched to car making when they used a variety of materials, from stickers to 3D blocks, to get their desired affect.

Fabric painting was also on the programme with the children given plain pencil cases to create their own special masterpieces.

Another event challenged the children with mask design with everything from feathers and ribbons used to create their own special look.

The afternoon session of the final day at camp saw the families of the children invited to the launch of the first summer camp art exhibition.

Such has been the success of the July camp that a second event is already scheduled for August and places are already being snapped up.
