Headshop saga

A RECENT programme shown on RTÉ gave a very interesting and alarming insight into the products on sale in headshops and the impact they can have on an individual.

One former user provided a particularly disturbing insight into his experience of using one of the products. He seriously self harmed while under the effects of the legal drug he had taken.

In the past few weeks the public’s attention has been drawn to headshops operating in Ireland and many anti-headshop committees have been formed.

A few people I have spoken to think that protesting is a lost cause as the same items can be bought over the internet by credit card. This is a fact but most children do not have credit cards. Even if they did, the drugs would have to be delivered to their home where they would most likely be picked up by parents.

I hope that protests will continue all over the country until complete legislation to address this issue is in place.
